Hello Class, I look forward to contributing and learning from these newly joined online networks:

  • FACEBOOK - Digital Learning & Leading https://www.facebook.com/groups/1391607630957125/Digital Learning and Leading (DLL) Facebook Group is the place were students in the Lamar University Masters of Digital Learning and Leading program can connect and collaborate as they work toward using technology to enhance learning. The DLL Facebook Group is also the place where students and graduates of the DLL program can work together to help create significant learning environments (CSLE) that give learners choice, ownership and voice through authentic (COVA) learning opportunities.

  • FACEBOOK - Remote ASL Teaching: Best Practices -https://www.facebook.com/groups/577571859502210This space is an opportunity for ASL teachers to brainstorm/discuss ways of teaching ASL remotely.

  • FACEBOOK - ASL Teacher Help and Support -https://www.facebook.com/groups/1627355610094 This group is to help teachers to teach ASL using technology and online resources. Exciting, because I just signed my students up for ASL online lessons at asldeafined.com. Paul Fugate is an the admin. of this site and ASL DEAFINED.

Prior to this class, I have been a member of these networks:

  • FACEBOOK - Texas ASL Educators - I access this on occasion and read information. Learned of it at an ASL Workshop. https://www.facebook.com/groups/texasasleducators/?epa=SEARCH_BOX

  • FACEBOOK - ASL Teacher Share - I look and learn a plethora of useful information from this group! Met and made friends at a CSW workshop in Austin a few years ago. We were able to access the ASL TEACHER SHARE site to add and use resources, have discussion, keep up with current trends and share thoughts. https://www.facebook.com/groups/102967363129944/

  • FACEBOOK - Creative ASL Teaching -joined and forgot about using it https://www.facebook.com/groups/294428354385357/about/

  • HALLSVILLE ISD -my PLC learning community is here- https://www.hisd.com/Domain/1076

  • TCTA -Texas Classroom Teachers Association -https://tcta.org/ membership fee required; gives access to current laws & events in regard to education, professional development, attorneys, discounts for educators, and news

  • FACEBOOK - SEE My Signs https://www.facebook.com/seemysigns/ This is your resource for all things Signing Exact English. From videos and events to classes. I use it to improve my interpreting skills

  • FACEBOOK - SEE Users in Texas & Beyond https://www.facebook.com/groups/319604428207284/ I love this group! Our family met these fabulous teachers about 18  years ago, after my son became deaf. We learned from them at a weeklong SEE Skillshop in Dallas, that our family attended every year. I value their knowledge and expertise! (SEE = Signing Exact English)FACEBOOK - Parents of Deaf Kids: Sign Language, Community, Culture -https://www.facebook.com/groups/180985375584945/ This group has been formed by and for parents of Deaf children who use sign language for the purpose of providing support, information, education, connection, and resources for parenting our Deaf kids. I occasionally contribute to this group, but have learned so much about the Deaf/deaf community. (This group does not support/discuss cochlear implants)

  • FACEBOOK - PODK Tech Corner https://www.facebook.com/groups/191036628164913/about/ This is a subgroup of Parents of Deaf Kids: Sign Language, Community Culture. The group is where parents of Deaf children can ask their questions pertaining to the technology associated with childhood deafness. This group focuses on looking at assistive technology from a Deaf culture perspective. I have contributed and messaged with parents in this group in regard to my son having  a cochlear implant.

  • FACEBOOK -  TX Hands & Voices Families & Friends  https://www.facebook.com/groups/160361128080799/ A place for families with Deaf/HOH children and the community that supports them in Texas to connect! Met the leader of this group at a sign language workshop and joined the group.

As I was listing the networks I am a part of, I realized that I am NOT (unfortunately) utilizing the resources available to me! I am thankful for the requirement to join 3 new networks. It has provided me the opportunity to see what else is available and what I already have, along with assessing my usage. I have been a consumer and observer more than an interactive participant that contributes. Part of that comes from hesitancy to "put myself out there"...fear of being wrong or looking silly or thinking my idea is not important enough. Teaching sign language is relatively new to me, compared to parenting. I find that I contribute more thoughts, ideas, and advice in the parent/family group for deaf kids. Building Knowledge: Constructivism in Learning (2:22) by John Abbott helped me to realize just how important it is to collaborate and share ideas. What we do learn builds on what we already know. As we collaborate with others, we gain different perspectives, as well as new information to connect to what we already know. Now, I realize that seeking input from others could by highly beneficial to me, when I approach it with a Growth Mindset! So, putting those ideas or questions out there, even when it is not in my comfort zone is vital to getting feedback and growing. When I taught 4th grade GT students, as well as Kindergarten, workstations were an integral part of our learning experience. There were set stations with differentiated activities that afforded some freedom of choice. Even now, as I teach high school, students are given an Extra Credit Choice-board with very broad options. Students are given CHOICE and OWNERSHIP in their learning, as presented in: Digital Learning: Choice, ownership, and voice through authentic learning opportunities (5 mins) Published by: Dr. Tilisa Thibodeaux Being involved with learning communities is critical in these times (especially since schools are closed and we collaborating virtually with students, teachers, admin, parents, and the rest of the world!). I am thankful that I am taking this class now! I am definitely using what I have learned so far.
