Wrapping up EDLD 5303 - Creation of the ePortfolio

What a tremendous amount of information was packed into this class! WOW! As Dr. Haraptunik states in the COVA ebook, learners do have to take OWNERSHIP of their learning environment. One of his stories that stood out to me the most was about being in Battle training with Rico. That guy was never prepared for his morning kit check and failed it. He did finally ask for help but did not take the advice, make the effort to change, or change his ways. Later, Dr. H. and others were injured because of Rico's unwillingness to change. He was not to be trusted. Dr. H. describes different instances in the lives of his sons (highly successful young men) that were authentic learning experiences. In order for the learner to take OWNERSHIP and have VOICE, there have to be real-world learning experiences. The traditional setting of lecture and loading information is not CSLE and does not support the COVA approach. Basically, the teacher has to relinquish control of the learning and let the student think, plan, collaborate, problem-solve, fail (shocking contrast to the "everybody is a winner" mentality), reflect, and then try again,

with guided instruction.

The creation of the ePortfolio is a true display of CHOICE, OWNERSHIP, and VOICE, in an authentic learning environment.
